The FutureGov Side Event convened government representatives and global partners—including the IMF, OECD, and the World Bank—at the United Nations Headquarters during the 25th session of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) to advance joint efforts in public sector transformation and service delivery.

GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR COUNTRY-LEVEL RESULTS

Organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the event—held under the theme Rethinking Governance in Practice: FutureGov as a Catalyst from Global Partnership to Country-level Transformation—focused on translating global partnerships into tangible, country-level results.

TOWARDS SYSTEM-WIDE APPROACHES

Opening the event, Marcos Neto, UN Assistant Secretary-General, and Director of UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, highlighted the importance of FutureGov in helping to move from fragmented interventions toward more coordinated, system-wide efforts that strengthen how public institutions deliver for people.

GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION

The event brought together senior representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Bank, CEPA, UN DESA and UNDP to discuss how partnerships are being operationalized at country level. Discussions were held, with interventions on how collaboration can advance public sector transformation, including UN DESA’s priorities for advancing public sector transformation, the World Bank’s approach to strengthening integrity risk management and de-risking investments, and how the FutureGov partnership can support efforts to enhance public workforce performance and prosperity, the OECD’s work on people-centred public services, and the IMF’s governance and anti-corruption diagnostics.

Further discussion explored how partnerships can enhance coordination across institutions, better align with country-driven priorities, and address practical challenges in implementation.

Panelists emphasized that coordinated approaches—bringing together UN entities, international financial institutions, and global partners—are critical to strengthening integrity and accountability, advancing digital transformation, and applying integrated approaches to governance reform.
